John William Blocker was born on May 22, 1929, in Rockdale, Texas to Gertrude Hardeman Blocker and Early Scott Blocker. He was the 2ndchild of 9 siblings. The family moved to Temple, Texas in 1948 where he met and married the love of his life, Vivian Lee Hawkins on August 12, 1950, and from that union two daughters were born.
For a short time, they lived in Stamford, Texas, but ultimately returned to Temple where he joined Mount Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. CS Williamson. He was a faithful servant, serving as a member of the Male Chorus, the Brotherhood and Deacon of the church until his health declined.
John worked for the Temple Independent School District, JM Dyers Department Store and ultimately retired from Smith Supply and Maintenance. He was preceded in death by his parents ,3 siblings (Ann, Earline, Ozell) and son-in law (Marvin).
Under God’s divine care and protection, he is survived by: his wife of 71 years, two daughters Helen and Phyllis (Anthony), two grandchildren (Shai and Tiffanie), four great grandchildren (Christopher, Jasmyn, Tamara, Destinie), five great-great grandchildren (Terryn, Nahla, Tyson, Dominick, Maddox), two brothers (Samuel and Ira), three sisters (Gertrude, Josephine and Julia) and innumerable precious nieces, nephews, cousins and loving community of friends and Frances.
