Gwynn William Matthews, also known as "G.W." was born September 21, 1956 in Petersburg, Virginia to the late John A. Matthews, Sr. and Artiles (Bailey) Matthews. His father being military, the family was stationed in Fort Hood, Texas. The family resided in Belton, Texas as there was no available housing at Fort Hood. The family moved from Belton to Killeen, Texas to Temple where G.W. attended school in the Temple ISD.
G.W. was a faithful member of the Salvation Army of Birmingham, Alabama where has was the Corps Sergeant Major. His ministry give him the opportunity to serve the community at large. He was diligent in serving as a teacher of God’s Word and he was a blessing to those he served.
Survivors include two brothers, Charlies A. Bailey of Gilbert, AZ, John A. Matthews, Jr. of Arizona, one sister, Sheila L. (Matthews) Berry of Belton, Texas, one niece and seven nephews.
